Allison E. Bennett Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Bennett family, the JWCC faculty, staff, and students, and friends of Allison Bennett, this scholarship memorializes an extremely active and engaged student who died tragically young of cancer before completing her associate's degree at John Wood. Because Allison served as president of the Student Government Association and was active in women's sports at the College, this scholarship's selection criteria include being a sophomore senator in SGA, a political science major, or being involved in women's sports.
American Association of University Women Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded to a returning woman and the other scholarship will be awarded to a woman who plans to further her education and pursue a bachelor's degree. Highest priority will be given to women interested in a nontraditional field of study.
Cowman Family International Scholarship

This award was created in 2021 to promote diversity and inclusion among the student body at John Wood. Scholarships are restricted to international male or female soccer players who are entering their second year. The recipients must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Daniel E. Fischer Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $500
This scholarship has been established by the family and friends of Dan Fischer, an 18-year employee of JWCC who passed away during his tenure at the College. Academic performance and financial need are not among the selection criteria. Rather, the family has specified that this award should be made to a student of average academic ability who exhibits a willingness to work hard and the motivation to succeed.
Florence and Roselyn Kay Jensen Memorial Scholarship

This endowed award established in 2010 supports graduates of Brown County High School. Applicants should be new or currently enrolled JWCC students who have financial need.
Grace Brorstrom Oakley Scholarship

Dr. Burks Oakley II established this endowed award in honor of his mother, Grace Brorstrom Oakley. Throughout her life, Mrs. Oakley was dedicated to helping women and children in need. This scholarship is given to a single mother who is working toward a degree at JWCC.
Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts Scholarship

This scholarship supports a student enrolled in the JWCC Fire Science Program. Applicant must show proof of firefighter eligibility, and employing agency must be a registered Fire Protection District in the state of Illinois. Applicant must be an Illinois resident. Recipient must complete the course(s) with a passing grade.
Judith L. Tucker Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established in 2007 by Edward Tucker and his family in honor of Judith L. Tucker. Judy served on the JWCC Board of Trustees for 12 years, serving one term as president. She was instrumental in the acquisition of the land for the present JWCC campus. Applicants should be a graduate of Brown County Community High School who has financial need.
JWCC Foundation Achievement Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours of 100-level or above courses. In addition, recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 based on a 4.0 scale.
JWCC/Frederick Ball Scholarship

Awarded to one minority student who is a graduating high school senior who also possesses one or more of the following: good academic performance, leadership skills, financial need and is involved in student activities.
Mark Lloyd Goehl Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Mark Goehl established this memorial scholarship in 2010, the 15th anniversary of Mark's passing. An accident claimed Mark's life when he was only 17. The scholarship will be awarded to a student of average academic ability who exhibits a willingness to work hard and the motivation to succeed, and who has financial need.
Mark McNett Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is a tribute to longtime JWCC Admission Director Mark McNett. For 22 years, Mark was dedicated to helping area students reach their education goals. When he died unexpectedly in 2007, Mark's children along with JWCC faculty, staff and students, and his many friends, initiated this award. Eligible applicants should have been out of high school for at least four years and have financial need.
Phi Theta Kappa Officer Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a current member of JWCC's Alpha Tau Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa who has completed 12 semester hours toward an associate degree, currently enrolled in at least six semester hours, and has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honors organization that recognizes academic achievement at community colleges.
Southeast Education Center Advisory Council Scholarship

Awarded to a currently enrolled student who resides in Pike County. Preferences given to students attending the Southeast Education Center. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic performance, motivation and financial need.
TRiO Scholarship

Applicants must have participated in a TRiO program, either pre-college programming through (Educational Talent Search or Upward Bound), or in the college bound programming of Student Support Services. A minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required. Students with unmet financial need will be given priority.
Walter Hansen - Kiwanis Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of longtime Kiwanian Walter Hansen by the Quincy Noon Kiwanis. The recipient should be a resident of Adams County.
Adams County Health Improvement Association Scholarship

Scholarships are restricted to Adams County students enrolled in the nursing program at John Wood Community College. Criteria for selection will be based on three priority factors: a narrative statement (250-500 words) of personal and professional goals and motivation to pursue a nursing career; financial need - determined by personal and family income and situations as well as other financial sources for educational needs; academic performance - must be at least a second semester student; grades will be considered, but are not necessarily a determining factor.
Amy Nicole Reichert, RN Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2014 by Beverly and Clifford Wainman and family in honor of their daughter, Amy. Scholarship recipient shall be selected using the following criteria: first year RN student going into their 2nd year of the ADN program, RN major, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. The selected nursing student should have excellent patient-family centered care adoption in their clinic practice.
Brorstrom Scholarship for Nursing

Scholarships are restricted to two female students enrolled in the LPN Program. Final selection is based on: motivational goals as outlined by the student in a narrative statement (250-500 words) of personal and professional goals directed toward a nursing career; financial need as determined by personal/family income and financial aid awards; and academic performance.
Del and Ruth Dougherty Memorial Scholarship

Established in honor of her parents, Sandy McKelvie wanted to do something that would help others achieve their educational goals. Sandy, who retired from JWCC after 30 years, served in a number of roles at the College, including director of allied health, assistant director for the Health Sciences Department and Director of the Practical Nursing Program. Awarded to a student in a health occupations program.
Grace Scholarship for Nursing

Recipient must be a female student enrolled in the nursing program. Final selection is based on: motivational goals as outlined by the student in a narrative statement (250-500 words) of personal and professional goals directed toward a nursing career; financial need as determined by personal/family income and financial aid awards; and academic performance.
Illinois Community College System Foundation Health Care Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship should be: a resident of Illinois; enrolled in a health care program that provides direct medical care to individuals; committed in his/her intent to practice in Illinois or in an area out of state directly benefiting Illinoisans; a student with demonstrated financial need; and a student who attends either full or part time as long as he/she demonstrates a desire to complete a health care program.
Illinois Community College System Foundation Health Trust Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship must show evidence of sufficient ability to succeed in a health-related program he/she has selected and have financial need.
Joanna Orr Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship honors the late Joanna Orr, who was a registered nurse and active in the medical and education communities. The recipient of this scholarship should be pursuing a nurse assistant certificate and exhibit a compassionate and caring attitude.
Leffman Healthcare Scholarship

Dr. Peter and Mrs. Mary Leffman established this endowed award in 2004. Dr. Leffman is a past member of the JWCC Foundation Board, and Mrs. Leffman has served as an associate faculty member at the College. This scholarship will be awarded to a student in financial need who is pursuing a degree in a healthcare field. A minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) is required.
Leslie Manley Memorial Scholarship

The JWCC Student Nurses Organization established this endowed scholarship in 2011 in memory of their classmate and SNO member Leslie Manley. Leslie died unexpectedly before completing her degree from JWCC; the College posthumously awarded her the LPN certificate. Leslie had a spirit of giving and leadership qualities that would have served her well in the field of nursing. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time nursing student at JWCC with a caring and nurturing personality, and financial need.
Pike County Health Improvement Association Scholarship

This scholarship is restricted to Pike County students enrolled in any health occupation program at John Wood Community College. Academic performance and financial need are not priority factors to be considered. Highest priority should be given to personal goals and motivation toward a health occupation.
The Donald and Eva Donhardt Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $450
This scholarship is established in memory of Donald and Eva Donhardt who were life-long residents of Quincy. Donald always stressed the importance of education for a better life. Eva had wanted to become a nurse but because she came from a very large family, she could not afford the training. The recipient of this scholarship must be pursuing a certificate or degree in nursing at JWCC with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Adult Education Scholarship

Awarded to a GED graduate who has completed his/her GED requirements over the previous 12 months through the John Wood Community College Adult Education Program. The course taken must be a college credit course. The student receiving this award must exhibit dedication to education, helpfulness with other students, and a desire to continue his/her education at John Wood Community College. This scholarship is awarded at GED Graduation in the spring; final selection is made by the Adult Education faculty and staff.
Burks Oakley Pre-Engineering Scholarship

Awarded to an engineering major who exhibits financial need, leadership skills, good academic performance, and is involved in student activities.
Deege Family Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a new American (or child of) who is pursuing a course of study at John Wood. The family donates these funds in honor of E. Paul Deege, a talented musician and educator who shaped many lives through his work.
Derrick Wayne Douglas Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established in 2008 by Ameren Illinois Utilities and the Douglas Family. The scholarship honors the memory of Derrick Douglas, an Ameren CIPS journeyman for 34 years, who died in 2007. Applicants should be enrolled in the electrical program at JWCC.

Weller Languages, Communication & Humanities Scholarship

In 2003, JWCC English Department faculty established this scholarship in memory of their colleague Lynne Weller. The award is open to students studying English, communication or concentrations in humanities.
Farmer Family Scholarship

The Farmer Family Scholarship was established in 2004 by Jim and Janell Farmer. Janell taught sales classes at JWCC from 1981-1993 and was part-time faculty member of the years in 1988 - 1989. The scholarship is awarded to a student studying business with an emphasis on sales or marketing.
Fauble Insurance Agency Business Ethics Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established in 2004 by Gil and Chris Fauble. Applicants should be studying business or a business-related field. The student must have an interest in business ethics and complete an essay question, in addition to the application, that will be available in the Advancement Office.

HOMEBANK Scholarship

HOMEBANK is a full-service community bank with two locations in Quincy. HOMEBANK offers two $500 scholarships to JWCC students pursuing a business-related degree. One is awarded to an incoming freshman, and one is awarded to a sophomore with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Lemon Memorial Scholarship

Criteria selection will be based on the talent and academic ability of recipients. Specific considerations will include a minimum 3.0 GPA, leadership skills, student activities, motivational goals, and financial need. CIS students will be given highest priority.
Mary Larner and Dan Larner Memorial Scholarship

Established by Ron and Joan Larner in memory of their daughter, Mary Larner, and their son, Dan Larner, this endowed scholarship is awarded to a male or female student who is pursuing a transfer degree program. Requirements: Apply using form and include a maximum 500-word statement on what the student hopes to accomplish by gaining a bachelor's degree.
Matt McElfresh Memorial Scholarship

The Matt McElfresh Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 by Gary and Sheila McElfresh, with the Adams County Sheriff's Department, in memory of their son Matthew McElfresh. This scholarship is awarded to a part-time or full-time student enrolled in the Law Enforcement Program at JWCC. Criteria include motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement, resident of Adams County, GPA of 2.00-3.25 on a 4.00 scale, and potential, character, leadership, career goals, and willingness to succeed. A narrative statement (250-500 words) addressing "Law Enforcement as a Calling" must accompany the application.
Mercantile Bank Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded to a Quincy High School senior and one will be awarded to a Quincy Notre Dame High School senior. Eligible applicants should be a resident of Adams County, have a minimum 3.0 GPA (cumulative) and be involved in extracurricular activities.
Paul R. Heath Scholarship
Amount: One college course
Awarded to a GED graduate who has completed his/her GED requirements over the previous 12 months through the John Wood Community College Adult Education Program, who plans to attend John Wood Community College, and who has received the highest score on his/her GED test of any of the students who have completed the test during this time period. The score must be 290 or higher. This scholarship is awarded at GED Graduation in the spring; final selection is made by the Adult Education faculty and staff.
Raymond DeClue Fine Arts Scholarship

The family of Raymond DeClue established this award in his memory in 2007. Raymond, who was from Farmington, Mo., was a professional craftsman and lifelong music lover. His son, Gary, is chair of the JWCC Fine Arts Department and professor of fine arts. Rino DeLuca Engineering Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established in 2013 by Linda Leathers in memory of her grandfather, Rino DeLuca. DeLuca immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1924. DeLuca was an engineer with the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics, now known as NASA. Applicants should be pursuing an Associate in Engineering Science degree at JWCC.
Robert H. Leeser Scholarship

Preference given to Marion County, Missouri, residents enrolling in a technical or semi-technical field, in courses or programs related to the trucking industry.
The Murphy Scholarship
Amount: $500
This award was established in 2002 by longtime JWCC Foundation Board member Dr. Robert Murphy and his wife, Shirley. This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the accounting program. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Vicky Harrison Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Vicky Harrison established this endowed scholarship in 2020. Vicky worked at JWCC for 28 years and was Manager of Enterprise Applications in the Information Technology Department, when she lost her battle with cancer in 2019. The scholarship is awarded to a student with an interest in pursuing a career in computer science.
Jeff Burgess CFL Scholarship – The family and friends of Jeff Burgess established an endowed fund in his memory to provide an annual Jeff Burgess Scholarship to a student in the College for Life Program, as well as direct support to the CFL Program. Jeff had a talent for giving practical and wise advice, and he fit the description of life coach very well. This scholarship is awarded to a student participating in the CFL Program.
